Getting around: cars, transfers and passes

Airport and intercity transfers: taxis, shuttles and private drivers

How should I get from the airport to the city, or between two cities, when a scheduled service is slow or does not run?

On this page

In short

Between an airport and a city, the choices are usually a scheduled train or bus, a taxi, a shared shuttle, and a pre-arranged private transfer. A scheduled service is often the simplest and most predictable; a taxi or transfer wins late at night, with heavy luggage, or where the timetable leaves gaps.

LATYNEX does not sell or arrange transfers. Some route pages in our catalogue show a driving time labelled as an estimate of the drive: that is a road-time estimate to help compare journeys, not an offer, a quote or a sign that a transfer is available.

The options

  • Scheduled train, coach or bus: predictable; check the last departure against your arrival and the walk at each end.
  • Taxi: no booking needed; check whether the fare is metered or fixed and whether the queue is at an official rank.
  • Shared shuttle: a fixed route, often with a wait until the vehicle fills; check the waiting policy.
  • Pre-arranged private transfer: a driver meets you at an agreed place; the price and terms are set by the company you book with.

What to compare

  • Total door-to-door time, including waiting and walking — not just the vehicle time.
  • Whether the price is fixed or metered, and what is added for luggage, night hours or waiting.
  • What happens if your flight is late: does the driver wait, and for how long?
  • Luggage space and child seats for your group.
  • How to identify the driver or the official rank, and how to reach the company on arrival.

Use unlicensed touts as a last resort: at many airports the safest arrangement is an official rank or a company you have looked up beforehand.

About the driving times you see on route pages

Where no operator publishes a timetable for a leg, a route page may show a driving time derived from geography, labelled as an estimate of the drive. It is there so you can compare journeys honestly; it is not a service we provide, a price, or an availability statement. For scheduled services, our route pages show published journey times and named operators.

Check before you buy

  • Compare the last scheduled departure with your arrival time before booking a private transfer.
  • Ask what the transfer company does if your flight is late.
  • Confirm whether the price is fixed and what it includes.
  • Use an official rank or a company you have looked up.

General information to help you decide — not a recommendation of a provider and not an offer. LATYNEX does not sell this service on this page, and prices, availability and conditions belong to whoever provides it: check them with the provider.
