Fast track: security and border lanes at the airport
Can I skip the queue at security or passport control, and what does that cover?
On this page
In short
‘Fast track’ usually means a dedicated lane at airport security. Some airports also offer a lane at border control, but that is a different service, and not every airport has one. Read exactly which queue the product covers.
A faster lane shortens the wait; it does not exempt you from checks. Since the EU’s Entry/Exit System became fully operational on 10 April 2026, non-EU nationals on short stays are registered when entering the Schengen area, with a facial image and fingerprints, and that step still applies.
Security, border control, or both
- Security fast lane: a shorter queue for the same screening — restrictions on liquids and electronics still apply.
- Border-control priority: not offered everywhere, and available to some travellers by eligibility (for instance status or ticket class) rather than for sale.
- Both: some airports combine services; check the product description for which checks it lists.
Limits and conditions
Fast-track access is normally tied to a specific terminal, a time window and sometimes a limited number of passengers per hour. It is not an entitlement to skip boarding cut-off times: check the airline’s check-in and gate closing times.
If you are a non-EU traveller entering the Schengen area, registration under the EU Entry/Exit System takes time at first entry whatever lane you use. Allow for it in a tight connection. See the entry-rules guide for the official pages.
Check before you buy
- Confirm which queue the product covers: security, border control or both.
- Check the terminal, the time window and any cap on numbers.
- Keep the regular time buffer for check-in and boarding cut-offs.
- Do not assume a lane removes entry registration or document checks.
