Luggage delivery: sending bags ahead or to your hotel

Can someone move my bags between a hotel, an airport or home so I can travel light?

In short

A luggage delivery service collects your bags from one place and delivers them to another — a home, a hotel or an airport — on an agreed date. It is different from storage: what matters is the delivery window, tracking, weight rules and what happens if a bag is late or lost.

Bags that cross a customs border, for example between the EU and the United Kingdom, can need declarations and can take longer; ask what the provider handles rather than assuming it is the same as a domestic delivery.

When this is the right tool

  • You travel by train or coach and do not want to carry heavy bags on and off connections.
  • You have a gap between a hotel check-out and a late departure and do not want to use storage.
  • You are flying with a strict baggage allowance and would rather send some items separately.

It is a poor fit when you need the bag in hand at a fixed hour (for example at the start of a hiking trip) unless the provider commits to a delivery window in writing.

What to check

  • The delivery window: a date, or a time range? What is offered if it is missed?
  • Weight and size limits per bag and prohibited contents.
  • Tracking and proof of delivery; who must be present to receive the bag.
  • The declared-value limit and the insurance the provider actually carries for lost or damaged bags.
  • For cross-border deliveries, who prepares the customs paperwork and whether you must list the contents.

Check before you buy

  • Read the delivery window and what happens if it is missed.
  • Photograph the packed bags and keep the collection receipt.
  • Do not send valuables, medication or travel documents.
  • Check the declared-value limit against what is in the bag.
  • Ask who handles customs if the bag crosses a border.
