Where to go
The airport terminal itself has no railway platform - the Air-Rail Link, a Doppelmayr cable-hauled 'Cable Liner' people mover opened in 2003 (replacing an earlier maglev system), covers the short elevated hop to Birmingham International station on the West Coast Main Line.

Easy to get wrong
Fast intercity trains cover Birmingham International to New Street in as little as 9 minutes, but ordinary stopping commuter services on the same route can take 11-18 minutes - the headline 9-minute figure is the fastest case, not a guaranteed one, and both Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway run 2 trains per hour each on this leg.
