This is the final leg of the long Alkmaar-Maastricht Intercity working rather than a short local shuttle - the same train that leaves Eindhoven for Maastricht started its journey as far north as Alkmaar or Amsterdam.

Maastricht station also has Arriva-operated regional services onward to Heerlen, Aachen and Roermond, run by a different company from the NS Intercity that covers this specific Eindhoven leg - a through ticket bought as one journey can still involve two different operators' trains further south.
