The Nuremberg-Munich high-speed line cut Munich-Frankfurt/Cologne journey times by around half an hour compared with the older route via Stuttgart, and is the line direct Frankfurt-Munich ICE trains normally use.

That high-speed line is closed for track renewal from late October to 11-12 December 2026: during the closure, direct Munich-Frankfurt ICE trains that normally run via Nuremberg are instead routed via Stuttgart, adding roughly half an hour to the journey rather than being cancelled outright.
