The parts people get wrong. Each one links to where we checked it.

  • Hours

The night connection to the airport is a separately numbered line. STCP files line 3M, Aliados to the airport, under its own "Rede da Madrugada" heading — it is not a late 601.

  • Hours

Metro Line E, the purple one, runs every 20 or 30 minutes depending on the hour and the day of the week. The airport is one end of the line and Estádio do Dragão is the other, so there is no wrong direction to board in.

  • Fixed fare

There is no flat airport fare on the metro. Andante occasional tickets are priced by how many zones you cross, counted from where you first validate, and every occasional ticket covers a minimum of two zones.

  • Tickets

Landing without an Andante card is not a problem but it costs more: the driver sells a Bilhete de Bordo for €2.50, paid in cash, MB WAY or contactless, valid only for the journey you bought it on.

  • Before you board

Validating is compulsory every time you change line or mode, not once per journey. The same card has to be tapped again on the second vehicle.

  • Easy to get wrong

Three day lines serve the airport by different routes — 601 by way of MAR Shopping, 602 by way of Padrão da Moreira, 604 to Hospital de São João — so which one is right depends on where in Porto you are going, not on which arrives first.

  • Tickets

The Andante card is a separate purchase from the journey: the paper Andante Azul costs €0.60 on top of the fare, and one card cannot be shared — it may only be used by one person at a time.
