Easy to get wrong
There is no direct rail line staying entirely within Austria between Salzburg and Innsbruck - the fast route runs via Rosenheim in the German state of Bavaria, using the largely-German Rosenheim-Salzburg and Rosenheim-Kufstein railways before re-entering Austria at Kufstein; a traveller who assumes this is a purely domestic Austrian journey is wrong.

Hours
ÖBB's own destination page confirms an hourly direct RJX connection between Salzburg and Innsbruck, though it does not itself state a journey time; independent sources put the run at roughly 2 hours, with figures seen ranging from about 1 hour 57 minutes to 2 hours 13 minutes.

Access
Because part of the route runs through the EU/Schengen territory of Germany rather than Austria alone, non-EU travellers should carry the same documents they would for any Schengen border crossing, even though no border check is normally performed on board.
