direct, HŽPP's daily InterCity service on the M604 line via Karlovac-Ogulin-Knin; materially slower than the coach because the line is electrified only as far as Oštarije and largely single-track beyond it

The parts people get wrong. Each one links to where we checked it.

  • Status

The line's own Wikipedia infrastructure article states the InterCity Mediteran express 'traversed the line from Split to Zagreb in just under 8 hours' - a figure that matches the currently scheduled daytime IC departure (13:49 Zagreb, 21:47 Split, about 7h58) rather than a stale historical number.

  • Hours

FlixBus's own route page states the 410 km Zagreb-Split run takes about 4 hours 5 minutes, with departures from 02:00 to 23:55 - checked 2026-09-10 on FlixBus's own site, not an aggregator.

  • Easy to get wrong

A traveller should not expect the 2025 Zagreb-Rijeka lowland-line environmental clearance to have sped up THIS route - that is a separate, still-unbuilt Zagreb-Rijeka project. HŽPP's own 2026 news page confirms Zagreb-Split remains non-electrified past Oštarije today, which is why new electro-diesel trains are only now being delivered.

  • Easy to get wrong

Arriva Croatia's own site lists Zagreb-Split among its direct intercity routes, but individual Arriva journeys can run slower than FlixBus's fastest departures depending on stops - check the specific departure's own duration rather than assuming both operators match FlixBus's fastest time.
