Before you land

The parts people get wrong. Each one links to where we checked it.

  • Easy to get wrong

The X96 takes about 90 minutes against the metro's 61, so it is the slower option by half an hour — but it runs all night, and an early ferry usually means arriving at the port long before the first train.

  • Easy to get wrong

Two different trains run this corridor without a change: Metro Line 3 in 61 minutes every 36 minutes, and the suburban railway hourly at :32 past the hour in 65. The same €9.00 airport ticket covers both, so the choice is whichever leaves first.

  • Hours

The last suburban train that actually reaches Piraeus leaves the airport at 23:32; the later ones terminate at Athens Larissa. Two of its services, 3201 and 3204, do not run at weekends or on holidays.

  • Easy to get wrong

On the run from the airport you may not board at intermediate stops, and on the run to it you may not get off. The restriction applies at every hour.

  • Easy to get wrong

The suburban line is also the connection to trains out of Attica: it calls at Athens Larissa station, which is where services to the rest of Greece leave from — the metro does not go there.
