Before you land

The parts people get wrong. Each one links to where we checked it.

  • Where to go

The Aeroporto metro station sits beside the terminal building on the arrivals side, so it is a walk rather than a shuttle. It is on the linha Vermelha, the red line.

  • Where to go

The Carris stop is not inside the terminal. The route lists name it as "Aeroporto" and "Av. Berlim (Aeroporto)" — a street stop on Avenida de Berlim, outside the building.

  • Hours

The metro runs 06:30 to 01:00 every day including weekends and holidays, and what matters is the entry time: you are guaranteed a train to any station on your line as long as you pass the barriers by 01:00. A flight landing much after midnight will not make it.

  • Tickets

The navegante ocasional card costs €0.50 on top of the fare and is individual — it cannot be shared by a group even when several journeys are loaded onto it. Each traveller needs their own.

  • Fixed fare

Paying the driver costs €2.30 against €1.90 for a Carris/Metro ticket bought beforehand and €1.72 on zapping — about a fifth more for the convenience.

  • Hours

After the metro shuts there is still a bus, but it has a different number: line 208, Cais do Sodré to Oriente, calls at the airport through the night with departures from around 00:30 to 05:35. The daytime airport lines are 705, 722, 744 and 783.

  • Easy to get wrong

The staffed ticket counter at the airport station is listed as temporarily closed, so arriving passengers buy from the machines. Two people landing together need two cards, bought before the barriers.
