Fixed fare
The Intercity Direct supplement on the Schiphol-Rotterdam stretch is separate from the base train fare and must be tapped at a dedicated supplement pillar on the platform with an OV-chipkaart; it runs EUR 1.92 off-peak to EUR 3.20 at peak as of 2026, and there is no supplement on the Schiphol-Amsterdam Zuid or Rotterdam-Breda segments of the same line.

Easy to get wrong
A traveller who does not want to pay the ICD supplement can take a regular, slower Intercity over the older conventional line instead - both are genuinely direct services with no change, so skipping the supplement does not require a transfer, only a longer ride.

Status
Rolling stock on Intercity Direct changed from older 160 km/h locomotive-hauled sets to newer ICNG trains capable of 200 km/h - which physical train shows up can still affect the exact minute-for-minute timing on a given working.
